ESIC Reimbursement for losing job during Covid-19

The Members of Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) will get enhanced unemployment and more expeditiously till June 2021. The Atal Bimit Vykati Kalyna Yojna , ESIC will give 50 percent of average wage for maximum period of 90 days of unemployment at present according to decision taken by the ESIC at meeting chaired by Labour Minister Santhosh Kumar Gangwar.

The ESIC has extended the scheme for one more year’s upto JUNE 30, 2021. Thereafter till june 30, 2021, the scheme will be available with original eligibility conditions the scheme will be reviewed after the end of calendar year.

Can ESI Member submit this scheme without Employer?

Yes! The person insured under ESI scheme can submit the claim directly to nearby ESIC branch office instead of the claim being forwarded by the last employer and the payment will be made directly into the bank account of the Member.

Eligibility:

  • The Member should have been in insurable employment for a minimum period of Two Years before his employment is terminated
  • The Member should have contributed at least 78 days in the contribution period immediately preceding unemployment.
  • The member should have also contributed for at least 78 days in one of remaining three contribution periods in two years prior to unemployment.

The Atal Bimit Vykati Kalyna Yojna scheme has been decided to relax the existing conditions and the amount of relief for workers who have lost employment during the Covid-19 Pandemic. The enhanced relief under the relaxed conditions will be payable until June 2021.

So! Employers must be give awareness and advice to their employees who lost job during Covid 19 pandemic to get avail this benefits.
